CrossFit Kennett Square Administrative/Membership Coordinator

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Well I was born and raised here in Southern Chester County. I went to Avon Grove High School. My mom still lives in the house I grew up in. I have 2 sisters who live close by. I lost my dad to heart disease in 1999. Big reason I am here at CFKSQ!  I got married when I was 19 yes you read that right 19 to the one and only Mr. Brian Neely. He is also a coach here:) We have been married for 25 years. We have three beautiful children Lauren who is 21, Matthew 18 and Miranda 15. I have been a Troopers wife for 22 years. I was a high school athlete. I played softball and tennis. Tennis was my love! I was set to play in college until a car accident after my junior year of HS changed all of that. Competitive sports was over for me after the accident do to the injuries I received. I spent a good year recovering from that accident which started my journey towards becoming unhealthy and a bonafide couch potato!! I walked into Advanced Fitness with my sister about 7 years ago and met Everett. That was the start of my fitness journey and my way back to health! He introduced me to CFKSQ!! I will forever be grateful to him for doing so! It saved me!!

When did you start CrossFitting?

May of 2012. I believe it was the first week we opened. On a Thursday night I think and Cindy was my very first WOD! One time.. all it took.. I was hooked!

What got you into coaching?

After about a year of CF I started to have conversations with Everett about coaching. I had become so passionate about  the sport and our community in general.  It had changed my life so much I really wanted to give back and help people experience the changes I did. I was not the “fit” girl in the room when I started I was coming off many years of being a couch potato and I wanted to work with people who were where I was. I wanted to be a part of their fitness journey. Help our members reach their goals no matter how big or how small they are.  It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had!!! I truly love to come here and coach and hang out with our members! Coaching is usually the best part of my day!

Since I started, I’ve really taken an interest in program design and the nuts and bolts of what makes the workouts effective and impact day to day, week to week, and month to month.

Coaching Certifications / Experience:

CrossFit Level 1 along with my 4 years of coaching here at CFKSQ and our in house coaches training.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting?

Where do I begin. Well I am in the best shape I have been in since playing sports in High School. I was on a low dose blood pressure med when I started CF. I no longer need to take that. When I began CrossFit in 2012 I was pushing a size 20 in my jeans. Now I am comfortable in a 12. Am I completely where I want to be.. nope.. so I always say I am a work constantly in progress. I am OK with that. Was all of that hard to admit and put out there to everyone.. ABSOLUTELY!! But the biggest health change has been mental!! So much stronger mentally!

Day Job

Office Manager for seasonal exterior cleaning company..  My other day job is here in the office at CFKSQ:)

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit:

I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends. I am very lucky to have my family close by and I have a pretty spectacular group of friends!! I love to travel!! I still enjoy playing tennis although I don’t get to play very often:( . Love to ski, hike, and camp. Very favorite hobby and really I consider it a talent, I love sitting on a beach! any beach! of course with a nice cold beverage!!

Favorite Cheat Meal?

ITALIAN FOOD!!!! PASTA PASTA PASTA PASTA.. did I say pasta?? After that Nachos

Favorite song to workout to?

Come on now.. you all know it’s anything hip hop!! The louder the better!

CrossFit goals for the year?

Yes!! I always have a goal.. but it’s been to improve my gymnastics!! That is always a goal for me! Another big one is to try and do some running during WODS when I can.  For those that don’t know I do not do any running usually because of an ankle injury. So it will probably be a modified run. But that’s ok!!

Advice for people just getting started?

Keep coming!! Be patient with your body! Listen to your coaches!! Set a small goal and work towards it. I always tell people you will surprise yourself one day. You will go out and do a 400m run and it will seem a little easier than it did a month ago. You will pick up that barbell and it will move from the floor a little easier than it did last time you tried that lift! Stay consistent! The only person you should be competing with is YOURSELF!! I promise the changes come!! The magic happens when we push ourselves outside of our comfort zones.

Why did you choose to be a part of CFKSQ as opposed to another gym?

Because Everett made me.. No in all seriousness. Once I started here and became  a part of this family. I knew this is where I was meant to be! The community we have here is like no other!!!!

Fun fact about you?

Ummmmm maybe that I was a hair stylist for 20 years and about 3 years ago I switched gears and stopped working in the salon. Hence why you may catch me giving Everett a haircut in the bathroom at the box sometimes:)

Favorite benchmark workout?

GRACE! OR DT!!!

Anything else?

I think I have shared pretty much everything lol
