CrossFit Level 1 Coach
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I try to normalize being a cat lady. I’m a coffee snob, mug collector, and a rookie homeowner.
When did you first start CrossFitting?
August 22nd, 2012
What got you into coaching?
I realized in high school that if I could choose one career that would be my “dream job,” it would be personal training. However, I decided to go to school for Health Care Management instead of studying exercise science. I ended up joining a CrossFit gym my senior year of college and realized almost immediately that I wanted to be a coach, but I felt it was important to be a CrossFit athlete for a few years first. Once I was able to obtain a more local day job, I registered to get my L1. I am so fortunate to be able to have a career in my field of study AND get to have my dream job, too!
Coaching Certifications / Experience

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit?
I grew up as a string bean and was always naturally thin. I had a hard time gaining muscle no matter what type of physical activity I did. While a large majority of women would find that to be a good problem to have, it’s equally frustrating having people tell you to that you should be eating more or stop exercising so much before you “wither away.” I slowly started making better food choices to help supplement my recovery. It took me 4 years and a LOT of work, but I have gained over 20 lbs of muscle and I still work hard to keep it on every day.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
I’ve become a complete nerd when it comes to my pool and I love it! It’s like a puzzle and a science project that can make you so happy and also super angry in a second. Being a pool owner is a hobby, interest, and a talent.
Favorite cheat meal?
All of the desserts! Chocolate chip cookies are probably my favorite, but it’s hard to discriminate. I also really love cereal.
Favorite song to workout to?
Kyoto by Skrillex.
Do you have any CrossFit goals for this year?
I always like to say that my goals are very flexible! It’s more fun for me to surprise myself when I hit a PR or get a new skill that I wasn’t expecting. If I was shooting for some specific numbers though, I’d like to hit a 250# back squat and a 150# snatch this year.
Do you have any advice for people just getting started?
Take it one day at a time, one workout at a time, and one goal at a time. Never stop learning. Be coachable, positive, and most of all, have fun.
What is a fun fact about you?
I was a competitive cheerleader for 11 years. It was the only thing I was ever good at. I hated playing any typical sports because I am embarrassingly terrible at all of them. People that know me now are generally surprised to hear that I was never an athlete on a sports team, but those that knew me before CrossFit are even more surprised that I lift heavy weights for fun.
Favorite benchmark workout?
Annie! Even when I lose to Jared by 1 second.
