Laurie Palic

CrossFit Level 2 Coach

CrossFit Mobility

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Coffee addict; animal lover; overly-ambitious; color-coded planner; book collector; disliker of math; game lover; supreme snuggler; determined; competitive; wife and mommy

When did you first start CrossFitting?

I started CrossFitting in May of 2014. My husband worked with Everett previously at the Y and knew I was bored with running at the weight room, so we took our first class together.

What got you into coaching?

I love learning and teaching. And I love CrossFit. It seemed like an easy choice to make. I’m constantly inspired to learn more in order to be a better coach.

Coaching Certifications / Experience:

Level 2 CrossFit Trainer with a Mobility Certification; coaching since June of 2013.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit?

I realized how great being strong felt, rather than trying to “feel skinny” or feel happy with how my body looked. Now my body is what it is and I am proud of what it can do.

Day Job:

7th grade writing teacher at Patton Middle School in Unionville.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

My family is a very important piece of my life; my husband, Doug; baby girl, Rose; dogs, Bauer and Carter; and cat, Tinsley, keep me busy. Currently Doug and I are training for the Kennett Mushroom Cap 13.1 in November.  I like taking on new challenges.

Favorite cheat meal?

I don’t follow a specific food “plan,” but I do try to make healthy choices with each meal. That being said I love dark chocolate; if it’s paired with peanut butter, even better.

Favorite song to workout to?

When I’m feeling spunky, an early 2000s punk rock playlist: Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Used… I like alternative music, sometimes country, 80’s pop, etc.

Do you have any CrossFit goals for this year?

I would like to get back into weightlifting more. Since having Rose, I have noticed a decline in my strength and would like to build my numbers back to where they were pre-baby. I also have an interest in developing my gymnastic skills and knowledge.

Do you have any advice for people just getting started?

Everyone says “Just keep at it,” or “Don’t worry about everyone else or ‘being last’”. While those are very true; my advice would be “why not?” Why not learn something new; why not meet new friends; why not figure out how amazing your body is; why not put aside your fear or hesitations; why not?

Why did you choose to be a part of CFKSQ as opposed to another gym?

CFKSQ was my home from day one; I didn’t need (or want) to look any further.

What is a fun quirky fact about you?

I eat the same thing for breakfast every morning at home; bacon and eggs over easy.
