"I'm surprised at how disciplined I've become. 5-6 days a week would have seemed impossible two years ago."
Hometown: Unionville
Favorite WOD: Bar Muscle Ups
Least Favorite WOD: Deadlifts
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I played sports only until high school. After that, I lifted here and there in my twenties, ran in my thirties, but never really found anything I truly enjoyed.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? I was first told about CrossFit by Blase Maitland. We went to high school together. After about 5 years of him telling me to give it a shot (and me mocking him), I finally listened.
It’s hard to recall my first WOD. I do remember thinking I liked to run prior to joining CFKSQ. After a few WOD’s involving running I quickly realized I did not…I enjoyed jogging with music in my ears and stopping when I wanted to. Though running and I still aren’t the best of friends, I’ve definitely improved on my stamina and endurance since starting CrossFit.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? Physical changes came about much sooner than I had expected. I was coming off of the quarantine and had gained 20 unwanted pounds. So I’m definitely looking and feeling improved.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
The friendships I’ve made are pretty huge. My girlfriend and I go together a lot and there’s a list of people that we look forward to seeing at CFKSQ. That’s pretty cool to get that out of something that simply started as, wanting to workout.
Also, I’m surprised at how disciplined I’ve become. 5-6 days a week would have seemed impossible two years ago. I could use that in other aspects of my life, but one thing at a time.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFKSQ moments: Well, winning this is pretty cool. Though the first time I got a bar muscle up I wanted to just stay up there until everyone in the room noticed. I repeatedly attempted it, so finally getting that was huge for me.
Any advice for people just getting started? Yep. Show up as often as you can, humble yourself, be patient and listen to coaches. They know what they’re talking about.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I’m lucky to do what I love and work with some of the greatest people I’ve ever met. Other than that and CrossFit, I watch entirely too many movies and speak in movie quotes.
I do know all the state capitals, so there’s that.
