When did you first start training at CFKSQ?
February of 2020, or was it March? Within a month of the COVID shutdown
Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
I’ve always been a runner but also loved group exercise classes.
How dd you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?
At the behest of my good friends who were just certain I would like it, especially Tina O’Leary. She said it would be my birthday gift TO HER if I would go to a class with her. And she was right- I love it.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?
Since starting at I’ve gained so much core and upper body strength, I’ve learned things I’ve never even heard of (Turkish get ups, burpees to a target, bar muscle ups and so much more…), and seen the value in varying my daily workouts to include shorter, more intense workouts. And ironically, I’ve gotten much faster for my long runs too.
What ort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?
From the beginning, the accountability and consistency of my (almost) daily workouts has made crossfit one of the best parts of my day. Even during the COVID shutdown, the daily interactions with coach Lauren took me to a new level in strength and fitness training. I definitely need and appreciate the many modifications the coaches offer, and their constant encouragement pushes me to keep coming back. From Everett’s cheerful hello as I walk in the door to the fist bumps at the end, I’m grateful this is a part of my life.

Any advice for people just getting started?
Don’t be intimidated- the coaches work to provide plenty of modifications making every workout productive for all members. Also, I’ve learned not to cherry pick the workouts! Every single one contributes to building my skill set.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?
Outside of CrossFit, my favorite hobbies are hiking, playing games with my kids and gardening.
