Tell us about your sports & fitness background: From when I was really young, I had always played soccer. I dabbled in other sports, but I knew that soccer was my passion. Playing both high school and club soccer takes it year-round.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My mom started to go to CrossFit two years before me. I would always hear that stories of what she did that day and it just mesmerized me. I knew that I wanted to be a part of that. The start of my CrossFit experience was definitely rocky. There were good days and bad days, but my love for CrossFit started to grow and now it is something I look forward to every day.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? Before joining CrossFit, I was the scrawny little kid. I didn’t really have any natural athletic ability, and never really felt confident with myself. Through CrossFit, I have gained so much confidence and feel so much stronger, both mentally and physically. Being able to say “I hit a PR today” really makes me feel proud of myself. Being able to achieve goals, like doing my first hand stand push up, shows my improvement. In addition, it has made me stronger on the soccer field and I see an improvement in the physicality of play.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? The nutrition challenge has really helped me eat better overall. From incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my diet as well as eating more nutritious meals. At Christmas my list has now shifted towards workout gear like grips, chalk, and jump ropes.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFKSQ moments: One of the most memorable moments of CrossFit was The Open and Friday Night Lights. The atmosphere was just buzzing, and there were so many people there to cheer you on. Even though I did drop a barbell on my head, it was still fun! It really made me realize what a great community we have created at CFKSQ.
Any advice for people just getting started? Age shouldn’t be an excuse for coming or not. Everyone is so supportive; they just love to see you at the box getting exercise. If you need to modify, then modify. It’s just about improving yourself as an individual.
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I love playing soccer a couple times a week, making my puppy Instagram famous, baking and then of course eating.
