I was overweight when I started and now, 20 lbs later, I think I am in the best shape of my life.
Hometown: Formia, Italy (town by the sea between Rome and Naples….closer to Naples)
When did you first start training at CFKSQ? August 2019
Favorite WOD: I know it might sound crazy…but probably Holleyman
Least Favorite WOD: whatever all those lunges around the building was called
Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I have been riding horses since I was a kid and then did horse show jumping competition for a while. I have always been going to the gym too but I never liked it that much. I have been doing fit boxing for a while.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? It was 2017 and CrossFit was starting to become more popular in Italy so I decided to try. I did my first fundamentals there and all I remember about my first workout is that I was sort of confused and the day after I was sore like I have never been. So I decided that I wanted to get good at it and fell in love with it.
My first workout here was all a different story (not the soreness…that was the same). It was in fact Holleyman and it took me around one hour to complete it (thanks to Lauren’s encouragement). I felt exhausted but also very accomplished and that’s why Holleyman is one of my favorites.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? For years I struggled with my appearance because even starving myself I would never be a skinny girl. It’s just how my body is built. My arms were always too big, I had always too many muscles. CrossFit and watching other women working hard and being strong, made me happier with the way I look and actually made me appreciate it. Now, I’m not afraid of pushing myself when working out and I actually really want those muscles to show now. I was also overweight when I started and now, like 20 lbs later, I think I am in the best shape of my life.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? Probably silly…I would have never expected that taking care of the calluses on my hands was going to become part of my beauty routine and that counting macros for the next day before going to bed was going to be a relaxing thing to do.
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFKSQ moments:
All the moments with my 5:30/6:45 class group, all the open gyms with Lauren that patiently gives me “homework” to do and watches me failing miserably at connecting double unders, the alligator claps and…sorry to be repetitive but the second time I did Holleyman as a second WOD after the 5:30 class and finished it in 23:38.
Any advice for people just getting started?
I would tell people that are getting started to listen to their coaches and trust the process. Results take time and the beauty of Crossfit is that any workout can be adjusted to be challenging and yet sustainable at any level. Also, don’t forget to have fun!
What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I am decent salsa dancer and can cook a killer lasagna.
