Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I played water polo and wrestled in high school and did division 3 wrestling in college.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel? My wife and I were looking for a gym with group exercise classes in Laramie Wyoming and crossfit was basically the only option. We quickly fell in love with it! My first WOD I remember was Cindy and I was surprised how quickly I could simply not do the movements.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)? The biggest benefit to my health is actually to my mental health. It really lets me disconnect from other stress and just focus on physical activity. I have also found that as I age crossfit allows me to continue to be a weekend warrior and do other athletic things (skiing, hiking, etc.) without getting hurt or overly sore.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected? I have always enjoyed being active, but I am surprised that now crossfit is often one of the highlights of my day. I really enjoy that all I need to do is walk in the door and the coach’s and other athletes motivate me. In many ways the WODs are like little games – either competing with the other athlete’s or your previous times. The best part is win or lose you are getting healthier.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFKSQ moments: This year was my first SOGO and I loved seeing so many people having fun, working out together, burning their hands doing burpees on hot mats!

Any advice for people just getting started? In many ways it is the easiest way to get in shape – anyone can do it and the coaches are there to help you learn how. Do not have a misconception that it is only for people already in shape and give it a try!

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit? I love spending time with my family outside and hiking, skiing, and surfing.
