Age:  50

When did you first start training at CFKSQ? June 2018

Favorite WOD: workouts with running or box jumps

Least Favorite WOD: workouts with burpees and thrusters

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: I’ve been an avid runner for the last 17 years having done numerous marathons and triathlons including 3 Ironman triathlons.

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… what was it, and how did it feel?

I had first heard of CrossFit many years ago and originally thought it was just super fit people lifting and throwing around odd objects.  Eventually, I did some research to learn of the traditional weightlifting aspect and always working different muscle groups.

It’s been a few years so I don’t remember my first WOD.  I do remember being extremely nervous but proud to have completed the workout.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CF (before/after)?

One of the main reasons I originally joined was to increase my upper body strength and CrossFit has definitely helped me do that.  Also, since joining CrossFit, I’ve set new PR’s for running in both the half marathon and marathon distances.  Prior to joining I felt my fitness had stagnated and I wasn’t really improving so CrossFit has really helped my raise my fitness level.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected?

When I began CrossFit I didn’t realize there was such a strong sense of community among everyone at the box.  The supportiveness of everyone there has kept me coming back and has pushed me to continue working towards my fitness goals.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit / CFKSQ moments:

My favorite moments were completing my first Murph workout and being able to deadlift 300 lbs and lift 100 lbs overhead for the first time.

Any advice for people just getting started?

CrossFit is really for people of all abilities. Don’t be imitated and if you put in the effort you will be rewarded with gains both physical and mental.

What are your hobbies, interests and/or talents outside of CrossFit?

Big Philly sports fan. I also enjoy running and travel.  I’ve been fortunate to have flown around the world twice.
